Oooo That Makes Me Mad

Ok…So I’m hosting a birthday party for one of my kids last night and after the party I notice a Twitter DM from one of my friends. Since it was from a trusted friend, I clicked on the link. The link in his DM didn’t work. It was late and I was tired so a just decided to let the message go and get some sleep. Oh…but the link did work…. My Twitter account was compromised and now a bunch of my friends received a bunch of bogus messages from me…what a nightmare.

Her Name Is Ptōchos (Digging into Matt. 5:3)

Introduction…
I little summary for those who don’t want to read the whole post.

As I dig into this Matthew 5:3 and look a the depth of the words Jesus used in the context of the world view of his day, in the context of who he was speaking to and in the context of the language that was used to communicate His truth, I see a brilliant picture emerging. I translate this verse in today’s thoughts as:

Leadership Myths: Myth 2 – Leadership Is Primarily About Influence

We have all heard these definitions before. Leaders are marked by their ability to influence and guide people from point A to point B. Leaders are marked by their ability to develop followers. The definition is true. If you can’t develop followers and influence people to move in one direction or another then you probably are not a leader. However, as important as the ability to influence people is to leadership, I submit that leadership is not primarily about influence. It is primarily about faithfulness.

Remember (Re Mix)

I recently completed mixing down some tracks of a song a wrote for my daughter Abby when she was born. I was not very happy with how the mix turn out. So before I moved on to some new songs I went ahead and re-recording the whole thing. I slowed it down a bit and limited the guitars to acoustic and bass. I don’t know if I will ever be completely pleased with any recording that I do…but I am much happy with this mix than I was with the earlier one.

A Call to Pray and Fast

With all the is going on in our country and our world and with all the attention around our national debt, I decided that next 6 days and 14 hours offer a great opportunity to pray and fast…Here’s why…

Cloud Almighty? An Appeal to Technology Pastors

I watched a commercial the other day. It was a dramatization where an individual was sharing how thrilled he was with the access his service provider gave him to the “almighty cloud.” I know…It was just a joke… right? Everyone knows that the “cloud” is essentially nothing more than massive collections of computers providing services on a global network. We all know that the cloud has no soul…right? I am probably just being too dramatic about this and I just need to relax and enjoy all the great services we have at our disposal today…

Intro to the Discourses of Jesus, or
Jesus Live, A Disciple’s Boot-camp Handbook

I think that I have shared this thought before…but…Matthews collections of Jesus’ teachings starting in Matthew 5-7, commonly known as the “Sermon on the Mount” is one of my most favorite sections in the Bible. In my study of these passages, particularly the Sermon on the mount, it has been interesting to see how different scholars organize and interpret these passages. For instance, some scholars believe that all of Matthew chapters 5-7 were taught in one sermon, some believe that the same chapters were a compilation of messages taught over time. Scholars also organize the passages into outlines that offer complementary perspectives. One thing that scholars seem to agree on is that the teachings of Jesus as recorded in these discourses fly directly in the face of spiritual mediocrity. In them Jesus our King, calls for the highest levels of discipleship. I consider these discourses to be a bootcamp for the disciple of Christ. Like boot-camp, one cannot read these passages without full engagement. And…like boot-camp, a disciple of Christ, fully engaged in these teachings is certainly going to be changed as they live out this path set by Christ Himself.

A Conversation With Godfrey
(A Song In Memory of Godfrey Viegas)

Play: A Conversation With Godfrey

Dr. Godfrey ViegasNovember 8, 1963 - July 23, 2010

Words have been in short supply lately. Shocking…I know. Let’s just say that God has taught me a great deal over this past year and I am thankful for His great love and peace. One thing that God sparked in my life recently is a renewed love for music. I had almost forgotten how much I love to play. And then God brought Godfrey Viegas into my life.
