As our Lord proclaims His supremacy over all things, all relationship, and all hierarchies (Colossians 1:15-18), we as his disciples must place Christ as Lord supreme on every single area of our life (that’s what true holiness means) and this is driven from a living relationship with the Lord, admiring Him and following Him because of His Character. The sad reality is that because of our fallen nature we can’t live like that always, that’s why we must walk relying on Him (His blood that wash our sins and the Holy Spirit).
