Broadcast Control Room - Karlsruhe, Germany Kongress 2010

Arrived Safely In Germany…

Alright…I am having one of those wake up in the middle of the night jet lag spells…so I thought I would post a quick entry about our first day…

I am, of course very tired as usual after a safe but very bumpy airplane  ride from Chicago to Frankfurt. The weather when we landed was cloudy, foggy and cold, about 32F… basically just like home…

Germany Leadership Broadcast Coming Together

OK…It has been a crazy couple of weeks of heads downs planning, configuring and testing…but I believe that the plans for broadcasting the Willow Creek Association Germany’s Leadership Conference 2010 from Germany to Switzerland are coming together. I am so amazed at all the smart people who have come together from Germany and the U.S. to get this broadcast ready. Our hope is to make some significant progress in using web streaming to replace satellite as a broadcast medium. I am not so naive as to think that we will actually say goodbye to satellite broadcasting just because of our efforts…but I would like to think that we are coming closer to a more cost effective, more flexible high quality broadcast platform every time to do this.

Costa Rica Update Day 2

Just a quick video post from our Costa Rica Trip.

Start of Day 1 in Costa Rica

Just taking a moment to go before you God to offer our efforts to you and to remember why we are here in Costa Rica… I pray that you might bear fruit through this effort, that we would deepen our friendship with our brothers and sister in Christ in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic and that we might be successful in doing our small part to  connect educational resources to people in need through technology.

New Player for my friends in Germany and Switzerland 2010

This post goes out to my friends in Germany and Switzerland who are working on the live broadcast of the Leitungskongress,  28.-30. Januar 2010 from Rheinstetten, Germany to Winterthur, Switzerland.

Thanks to help from our friends and Mankin Media, Multicast Media and Akamai’s Open Video Player, I have been able to assemble a decent, lightweight video player that should playback high quality video…I will be sending the player out directly to the team since it has been optimized for the event.

Inspired by Mis Hermanos en la Tecnología

Late last year, some colleagues and I flew down to the Dominican Republic. We had the privileged of working along side some world class technologists from the D.R. installing a computer lab in the Dominican town of Consuelo. We have had the privileged of participating in many other computer labs in the past. However, this one was different. Instead of installing 20-30 individual computers, we specified desktop virtualization technology from http://www.Ncomputing.com.

Remembering Katrina, 2005 – Survivor Stories that Still Inspire Me Today…

I was just thinking back to Hurricane Katrina. I remember the amazing people I met. Their stories still inspiring me today. I wanted to just post something to honor their stories as they endured the destruction wrought by this terrible storm that took place in late August, 2005. Below are posts I made to my Journal at the time during a relief effort I participated in with Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington, IL and Hartland Church in Rockford, IL… It is not that I wish for people to relive this horror. I just don’t want to forget the people…I don’t remember them as victims…but as people determined to thrive again…

Dominican Republic 2008 – Day 4

DRDay4

Dominican Republic 2008 – Day 3

Today was a day filled with challenges. First…

We are experiencing significant trouble with the s800i Digium Appliance. Most outbound calls get fast busy…sometimes calls go out…but rarely.
Tested lines directly and calls work all the time. We isolated wiring to remove cable variables. The phone service itself works fine. However, when we connect the Digium Appliance to the mix…fast busy.
